About Bastien

Born and trained in Paris, Bastien Founes is a French artisan and designer whose work blends traditional European craftsmanship with contemporary sculptural design.

Early in his career, Bastien contributed to projects for renowned luxury houses, including Chanel, Christian Dior, and Yves Saint Laurent, where precision, artistry, and exceptional quality were the standard. His background also includes decorative arts, fine woodworking, architectural finishes, and scenic construction for the film industry.

Today, from his studio in the mountains of northern New Mexico, Bastien creates bespoke architectural shelving and functional art for luxury homes throughout Santa Fe, Taos, and the Southwest.

Every Dancing Shelves commission is individually designed and handcrafted using premium hardwoods, forged steel, and reclaimed materials. The result is more than custom shelving—it is sculptural furniture that complements the architecture of the home and reflects the character of those who live there.

Inspired by both the elegance of Parisian design and the natural beauty of New Mexico, Bastien creates timeless pieces that bring artistry, craftsmanship, and purpose into everyday living.
